At Altos de Chavon you can spend a few hours walking the cobblestone streets, where you can transport yourself to a replica of a sixteenth-century charming Italian village right under the Caribbean Sun.
The village is set on a hill with sweeping views of the Chavon River with verdant mountains framing the scene.
The project was designed by the Italian architect Roberto Copa & industrialist Charles Bluhdorn.
Los Altos de Chavon was designed to capture the romance and elegance of the Old World with sprinkled touches of the vibrant and warm culture of Dominicans.
The small Iglesia San Estanislao de Cracovia (St. Stanislaus Church), standing right at the center of the village has been the choice of many couples to hold their wedding ceremony. The chapel was named St Stanislaus, the patron of Poland. You may have seen the church in popular music videos such as the beloved salsa singer Marc Anthony.
When you’re hungry, you’ll have various dining options… as you dine you’ll feel as if you’re in the Old World… at night the scene is even more romantic when lanterns add a golden glow to the stone walls.
Fresh Fresh features delicious smoothies to cool off and nourish, the menu includes breakfast, wraps, salads burgers, and more.
Café Marietta is known for its great pizza, opens at 5 pm for dinner. For a feel of the Mediterranean with Mexican flavors try La Cantina.
There is also a small market where you can get refreshments and snacks as you continue touring the village.
Altos de Chavon has a variety of gift shops, if you love jewelry you’ll find unique pieces with the beautiful stones of Amber & Larimar, only found in the Dominican Republic. Don’t miss the Amber Museum and the Archaeological Regional Museum.
Be sure to take some time to simply relax at the benches and enjoy the view over good conversations with loved ones and friends.
Be sure to check out the events calendar, spectacular musical and artistic events are held throughout the year at the Amphitheater, another masterpiece in the village, a Greek-style amphitheater for 5,000 people.
As you walk around, you’ll encounter gardens with shade to take a little break from the sun, the theme follows the Mediterranean feel…
